Young Waterfowlers Program

Young Waterfowlers Program 2012

The goal of this program is to introduce kids that are from non-hunting families, into waterfowl hunting. We feel that by including the firearms safety training into this program, we will accomplish this goal. The program with include a MN DNR Firearms Safety course combined with additional sections to develop skills and knowledge about waterfowl, ethical, practical and safety skills necessary for successful waterfowl hunting. Adult mentors will assist students in the training sessions. They will also accompany students on the Youth Waterfowl day on a hunting trip in the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

Who is the Young Waterfowlers Program for?
Youth 11-15 year olds who have never hunted waterfowl or are just getting started. The only requirement is an interest in waterfowl hunting and the successful completion of the Firearm Safety Course. 
 
When: Tentative dates: August 20, 22, 27, 28, 29, September 3, and 5th, with mentored waterfowl hunt September 7, 2013.  Tentative time's, would be 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. all days.
 
Where: The Classes will be at the Minnesota Valley NWR Carver Rapids Education and Visitors Center, 15865 Carver Highlands Drive, Carver, MN. The hunt details will be covered during the class sessions.
