The Young Waterfowlers Program is a youth waterfowl program that MWA started over 25 years ago. The program is intended to give young people an opportunity to develop their hunting skills and learn about waterfowl and their habitat. Fun an informative sessions are combined with actual field experiences to teach the ethical, practical and safety skills necessary for successful waterfowl hunting. Adult guides assist students in training sessions. They also accompany them on the field day and the hunting trip on the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. This program is for 12 - 16 year olds who have never hunted waterfowl or are jsut starting out. The only requirement is a genuine interest in waterfowl hunting and the successful completion of a firearms safety course. The course work will be held at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in Bloomington, MN. This program consists of 12 hours of classroom work, a 6 hour fiels exercise and an actual guided hunt on the Minnesota Vally National Wildlife Refuge.
